Buddha Shakyamuni

Circa 500 BC) The man known as "The Buddha" established one of the world's most loved and influential traditions of psychology and philosophy. Although the phrase "The Buddha" is commonly used to refer to the Buddha Shakyamuni (the “founder” of Buddhism), the term "Buddha" is actually a title that means "awakened." Shakyamuni means "sage of the Shakya [clan]." Gautama means "the best cow" or one with a peaceful nature.

He stated that he did not invent a religion or philosophy, but only discovered what was lost:

"I have seen an ancient Path, an ancient road traversed by the rightly enlightened ones of former times." - Buddhism. Samyutta Nikaya ii.106

Although widely credited with establishing a tradition of monks and nuns, few know that stage was only for the beginners to prepare for their more difficult work of sexual cooperation.
