(Sanskrit बोधि) adj. wise, learned. As a feminine noun, "perfect knowledge." Also used to mean "enlightened mind." It is said that the Buddha acquired enlightenment at the base of the Bodhi tree, which is a type of fig tree (compare with the story of Adam and Eve). Bodhi can also be used to describe a rooster (which interestingly, is also a symbol of Christ).
